PCOC Board Meeting - January 20
The next meeting of the Princeton Club of OC Board is scheduled for Friday, January 20. The board meetings are open meetings and you are cordially invited and encouraged to attend. The meeting will take place at 12:00 p.m. at Coco's Restaurant in Newport Beach. (900 N. Bristol - Near Corner of Jamboree and Bristol) These meetings are low-key and a great way to meet fellow alums. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Chris Porter '98.

Men's Volleyball - January 30, 31 & February 1
Cheer on the Tigers as the Men's Volleyball team plays Cal Baptist on January 30 in San Diego, Can State - Long Beach on January 31 in Long Beach, and UC San Diego on February 1 in San Diego. For more information, visit the Men's Volleyball schedule.

Princeton University Town Meeting - February 2
Princeton University President Tilghman will be hosting a Town Meeting in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 2 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. featuring Pulitzer Prize winning author Jeffrey Eugenides, Professor of Creative Writing in the Lewis Center for the Arts. Dress is business attire, and orange and balck are encouraged. The event will be held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. For more information, view the invitation. Click here to register online.

PCOC Theater Night - February 25
Join us on Saturday, February 25 for a night at the theater, as the PCOC takes in the play "Elemeno Pea" at the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa. The play offers a comedic look at how the absurd wealth of Martha's Vineyard draws a young woman far from her blue-collar upbringing – much to her older sister’s dismay – and makes keen observations about class, family and the choices that shape who we are. Women's Water Polo - March 17, 18 & 21
Come out and root for the Lady Tigers at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego on March 17 and 18. The Tigers will also play against Arizona State and Azusa Pacific on March 20 in Walnut, and against Concordia University in Irvine on March 21. 2011
Annual Dinner and Tiger Tribute - Cindy Barnard '85 was the recipient of the PCOC's "In The Nation's Service Award" at the club's annual dinner, held on November 2 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. Princeton's Dean of the Faculty, David Dobkin, was the evening's featured speaker.
Top College Mixer - On September 14, the PCOC gathered with other Ivy League schools and top colleges for a mixer at the Sports Club/LA - Orange County. The event was held in conjunction with the release of U.S. News & World Report's Annual Listing of the Top 25 National Univeristy Rankings - Best Colleges 2012.
Bon Voyage BBQ - On August 14, the PCOC gathered at San Miguel Park to send off the newly admitted and returning Princeton undergrad and graduate students with an informal BBQ. More than 50 Princeton alums, current students, incoming students, parents and families joined us on this great afternoon event.
Dock Party and Sunset Sail - Back by popular demand, our August 4 Dock Party and Sunset Sail was another fantastic evening, combining a family-friendly open-house-style dock party at the Balboa Yacht Basin in Newport Beach with a boat tour of Newport Harbor by Roger Philips '67.
Volunteer Opportunity at the OC Arthritis Walk - On May 15, club members braved the pouring rain to volunteer at The Orange County Arthritis Walk at the University of California Irvine.
New Admits Party - On April 11, we met at the home of Cindy Barnard '85 to congratulated the recently accepted Princeton students for the class of 2015. This was also a great opportunity to thank the Princeton alums in Orange County who gave of their time to interview this year's nearly 500 applicants.
Princeton / Kentucky NCAA Basketball Viewing - Combined with the monthly Board meeting, the PCOC gathered at The Classic Q in Newport Beach on March 17 to watch the #13 seed Tigers take on #4 seed Kentucky in the second round of the men's NCAA basketball tournament. The Tigers lost a close one with seconds to spare.
Women's Water Polo - On March 16, the Princeton Women's Volleyball team played Concordia University at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, winning 11-5. The team had 5 wins and 4 losses on its spring break trip through Southern California.
Princeton Alumni Global NetNight - On February 15, the PCOC took part in the University's Global NetNight, which was held simultaneously by alumni groups around the world for in-person and online contact building. Our featured speaker was Neal Schaffer, President of Windmill Marketing, who spoke on how to maximize the networking capabilites of LinkedIn.
Lyon Air Museum Tour - The PCOC spent a fun Sunday afternoon on January 30th touring the Lyon Air Musem, complete with authentic aircraft, rare vehicles and related memorabilia, with emphasis on the defining event of the 20th century - World War II. The tour was led by volunteer docents who had stores of first-hand experience to share.
Princeton Men's Volleyball and Meet The Coach Reception - On January 28, the Princeton Men's Volleyball team played Hope International University in Fullerton. Immediately following the match, the PCOC hosted a Meet the Coach Reception so our local Princeton alumni could meet and hear Coach Shweisky.
2010
Ducks vs. Kings Hockey Game - On December 26, we joined the Princeton Club of Southern California for the big game between the LA Kings and the Anaheim Ducks, featuring Kevin Westgarth '07 and George Parros '03! After the game, there was a personal meet-and-greet with the Princeton players.
Annual Dinner and Tiger Tribute - Peter Ochs '65 was the recipient of the PCOC's "In The Nation's Service Award" at the club's annual dinner, held on December 1 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. UC Irvine Professor Shawn Rosenberg was the evening's featured speaker.
Santa Ana Artwalk - On November 6, the Princeton Club of Orange Country held a private reception and exhibition opening in conjunction with the Santa Ana Artwalk. The event was co-hosted by OC Ivy Plus.
Princeton-Penn Football Viewing - The Princeton Tigers played the University of Pennsylvania Quakers. Our Young Alumni Chairs coordinated with the UPenn alumni association to watch the game at The Classic Q in Newport Beach.
Family Fun Day - On October 16, we held a special family fun day for Princetonians and their children, complete with a bounce house and food.
"Top College" Mixer - On September 1, the PCOC and members of the Orange County Ivy Plus group held a mixer at the Spots Club LA - Orange County for alumni from U.S. News & World Report's "Top 25 National Universities" on the heels of the release of the magazine's 2011 "Top 25" list. More than 100 people were in attendance.
Bon Voyage BBQ - On August 14, we sent off the newly admitted and returning Princeton undergrad and graduate students with an informal BBQ at San Miguel Park in Irvine. It was a great way to reconnect with friends and to wish the students well in their Princeton experience.
Dock Party and Sunset Sail - Roger Philips '67 led a boat tour of Newport Harbor on July 14 aboard the Arbella, accompanied by an open-house-style dock party at Harbor Marina. This wonderfully fun and family-friendly event was a great way to spend a summer evening.
Young Alumni Bonfire - The PCOC and the OC Ivy Plus group held a bonfire, including hot dogs, hamburgers and s'mores at Big Corona State Beach in Corona Del Mar on June 3.
"Keep It Wild" Volunteer Day and Hike - On May 15, the PCOC, in conjunction with the OC Ivy Plus Group, helped with plant restoration and removal projects at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, followed by a guided hike.
New Admits Party - This April 12 event was a great opportunity to meet students from Orange County recently admitted to Princeton and spend time with other local Princeton alumni. The event was also a wonderful way to honor the many volunteers that helped interview every applicant in Orange County.
Sporting Events - PCOC members cheered on the Men's Volleyball team at UC Irvine on January 26 and the Women's Water Polo team at Concordia University on March 17.

Annual Dinner and Tiger Tribute - Peter Bastone '80 was the recipient of the PCOC's "In The Nation's Service Award" at the club's annual dinner, held on November 5 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach. Professor Nolan McCarty of Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School was the evening's featured speaker.
Orange County Ivy Plus Winter Mixer - PCOC members and alums from other Ivy League schools gathered in Laguna Beach on December 3 for a wine reception at the Marion Meyer Gallery, the Art Walk at the Laguna Art Museum and a mixer at the Royal Hawaiian.
Princeton Football Happy Hour - The PCOC met at Classic Q Billiards and Sports Club on October 8 for happy hour and to watch live the Princeton University Football game as the Tigers take on Colgate University
Soka University Tour - Jay Heffron '74, Dean of Students at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, gave PCOC a tour of the campus as part of the Princeton in Education program on September 23.

Summer Solstice Mixer - The Princeton Club of Orange County and the Yale Club of Orange County joined for a combined event on June 23 at the Sports Club LA - Orange County.
New Admits Party - This April 18 event was a great opportunity to meet students from Orange County recently admitted to Princeton and spend time with other local Princeton alumni.
"Creating a Law School for the 21st Century" - The University of California, Irvine School of Law founding Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and Founding Faculty Member Catherine Fisk '83 presented on March 4 on the process of creating a law school from the ground up to unite the best of traditional top-tier legal education with innovative thinking.
Sporting Events - PCOC members cheered on the Men's Volleyball team in Southern California in late January, the Women's Water Polo team at Concordia and Chapman Universities in mid-March, Men's Tennis at UC Irvine in late March, Men's Soccer in San Diego in late September and Women's Basketball in late November.
"The Financial Crisis and Your Investments" - Kyle Harrington '92 led the January 29 discussion and provided some investment guidance on how to survive these very difficult and frustrating economic times.
Aspire Campaign Event - Princeton President Shirley Tilghman presented an event in Los Angeles for the University's "Aspire" giving campaign.

Wine Tasting - PCOC members and friends enjoyed a pairing of rich and tasty foods with varietal wines at WineStyles in Irvine on December 3.
Annual Dinner and Tiger Tribute - Ellen Junn *84 was the recipient of the PCOC's "In The Nation's Service Award" at the club's annual dinner, held on October 30 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach. Professor Lawrence Rosen from Princeton's Anthropology department was the evening's featured speaker.

"Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor" - A July 20 tour of the largest exhibit of the Terra Cotta warriors China has permitted out of the country was led by Juliann Wolfgram *83 at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.
"The Psychology of Political Polarization - Peter Ditto *86, a professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Behavior at UC Irvine, presented on May 14 on some of the psychological factors that contribute to our hyper-partisan political environment and whether liberals and conservatives are best thought of as polar opposites or mirror images.
"John Lennon, Richard Nixon and the 1972 Election" - Jon Wiener '66, a professor of U.S. history at UC Irvine, presented on April 17 on the John Lennon FBI file, which was released to Wiener after 20 years of litigation all the way to the Supreme Court under the Freedom of Information Act.

APGA Event - The event, held at Ocean Park Restaurant in Monterey Park on December 8, featured Dean Russel.
Networking Night - Kyle Harrington '92 hosted a Networking Night at the Tuscany Grille in Irvine, where great food and conversation was had by those who attended.
Princeton University Conference - Los Angeles was host to a University Conference on December 1, featuring Princeton President Shirley Tilghman.
Annual Dinner and Tiger Tribute - George Elsey '39 was the recipient of the PCOC's "In The Nation's Service Award" at the club's annual dinner, held on October 25 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach. Professor Tali Mendelberg from Princeton's Politics department was the evening's featured speaker.
Bon Voyage BBQ - PCOC members sent off the crop of current students and new admits with a BBQ at Corona del Mar state beach on August 26.
Lunch and Learn - "The Real Goodwill of Orange County" was the subject of the PCOC's July 26 "Lunch and Learn" session.
President's Town Hall Meeting - On February 1, Princeton President Shirley Tilghman held a town hall meeting in San Diego.
Sporting Events - The PCOC cheered on Princeton Volleyball vs. UC Irvine on January 31 and Princeton Men's Tennis vs. UC Irvine on March 18.

Job/Internship Search Event - On December 21, the CEO of Doostang.com presented to current students and young alums on networking and how to find the perfect job or internship
Holiday Party - PCOC members gathered at the home of Jim and Nancy Kreder '60 in Laguna Beach for our annual holiday party. This casual event was a great way to catch up with fellow alums and to enjoy the beautiful Laguna sunset.
Walking Tour of Little Saigon
Princeton Professor Presentation - Princeton Professor Maria bi Battista gave a presentation on fast-talking dames in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s.
Lunch and Learn - On February 1, the PCOC held a "Lunch and Learn" event to learn more about the Orange County non-profit organization Serving People in Need.
Networking Night - Peter Bastone '80 was the featured speaker at our January 17 Networking Night at the Irvine Marriott. Peter, the President and CEO of Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, addressed the group on several topical healthcare issues.

Networking Night - On November 8, the PCOC held a Networking Night at the Irvine Marriott, featuring a speaker with an inside perspective on the residential and commercial real estate market.

Orange County Marathon - The PCOC organized a team of runners to participate in the Orange County Marathon on December 5, followed by an after-race celebration party.
Taleo Mexican Grill Mixer - On October 18, the Taleo Mexican Grill in Irvine was host to a PCOC mixer.
Lunch and Learn - The PCOC held a "Lunch and Learn" on October 12 at the Orangewood Children's Foundation's office in Santa Ana to learn more about the organization that provides current and former foster you with scholarships, transitional housing, independent living and training.
Princeton Football Tailgate - PCOC members gathered with on September 25 alums from Los Angeles and San Diego to cheer on the Tigers in their first West Coast appearance as they played the University of San Diego.
Angels Game BBQ - On September 22, PCOC members gathered under the "Big A" at Anaheim Stadium prior to the Angels' game against the Seattle Mariners.
